Classroom Rules and Procedures

Dear Students & Parents,

I am SO excited to have your child in my class this year! Bonner Elementary values education and strives to make sure your child has the best learning experience possible. Please know that I want to know any concerns you are having. HISD values your opinion and wants you to be involved in your child’s education. When children know that their parents care about their grades and academics, they want to meet their parent’s expectations. We want you to be involved!  Please check your child’s take home binder each night and make sure they’re reading every evening. Any homework or behavior notes will come home in your child’s take home binder.

Attendance
Please make sure that your child is at school on time each day. The first bell rings at 7:45 and the tardy bell rings at 7:50.   It is important that your child is at school on time, has eaten breakfast, is well rested, and ready to learn.

Snack
The class will have snack every morning before lunch.

Lunch
11:55-12:25

Classroom Updates

I will send you updates via SEESAW. The campus will also send notes home with any important information.  PLEASE check our page often.  Seesaw is very convenient for us and we plan to communicate with you this way on a regular basis.  Please feel free to contact us anytime through email or by contacting the office at 875-9212.  Our conference time if from 9:00-9:50 each day.

Graded Papers
I will send home graded papers on Thursdays.  Please sign and return this red folder to school on Friday.  Your child’s conduct grade will be written in the folder each week.  You do not need to return the graded papers unless a paper is labeled “please sign and return.”

Behavior
The following is expected in class on a daily basis:
    1.
Be responsible (prepared for class with needed materials)
    2. Be safe (keep hands, feet, and other objects to yourself)
    3.
Be respectful (to ALL: peers, teachers, administrators, and visitors)
    4.
Use self-control at all times (appropriate actions and words)
    5.
Stay focused and on task (follow directions and do your best)

Each student will have a behavior card that will stay in their “go home” binder and all points deducted for misbehavior will be marked on this card. Points may be deducted for talking, not following directions, being disrespectful, being unkind to others, or for any out of classroom misbehavior. Students who have a 90 or above average in conduct/ work habits will earn the privilege of attending Fun Friday the last thirty minutes of the day each Friday.

Consequences for not following the rules may include: verbal warning, loss of privilege (including recess), parent note or phone call, office intervention, etc.

Thank you for sharing your child with us.  We are looking forward to an amazing year and can’t wait to watch each of our students learn and grow.  Again, please let us know if we can answer any questions.

Sincerely,

Ms. Thornton
